I am going to have cyberknife treatment next week for my residual tumor and was reminded how important it is to have an experienced team. My MRI was done locally. The report stated that no tumor could be visualized and there was no significant change since my last MRI. The neuroendocrinologist insisted that he see the MRI. I kept putting it off as the report indicated that there was no change. I finally sent the MRI to the endocrinologist for review. Low and behold, he saw a tumor. He then reviewed the MRI with the neurosurgeon. They even discussed the findings at the tumor board. The endo and neurosurgeon both e-mailed me with the findings and the recommendation that I consider cyberknife. Today, I met with the neurosurgeon and the radiation oncologist - how the tumor was missed by the original radiologist is beyond me - pops right out of the MRI when you look in the correct place. Anyway, I am trying to emphasize the need for a speicalized team who seem to have the patient's best interests in mind as they organize treatment.
