I recently saw endos that specialize in parathyroid disease to be evaluated for
my elevated CA, ionized CA, & PTH. I had several tests done and both
parathyroid and thyroid adenomas were found. Surgery was recommended. My
parathyroid/thyroid surgery is scheduled on August 28th. I officially have
Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia. I am not sure of the type because of the
additional (and unexpected) thyroid adenomas. I am hoping I can have minimally
invasive surgery. In 1997, an "incidental" pituitary cyst was found. I never
had any of my hormones checked. I had 24/7 migraines. My doctor told me that it
was due to "stress." I ignored my symptoms/health for five years. I was
diagnosed with a pituitary tumor in April 2002. I tested for 3 1/2 years and
was diagnosed with cyclical Cushing's in June 2005. I was unable to schedule
the pituitary surgery. My Daddy was diagnosed with colon cancer that fall and I
became his primary caregiver. I did not see any endos for two years. I had a
laparoscopy in May 2006 and developed gastroparesis (paralyzed stomach.) I
couldn't eat for 3 1/2 months and lost 40#s. I still have major digestive
problems. My new endo believes that the high calcium is causing my digestive
problems. He says they should improve post-op. I would certainly love that!
Since I have M.E.N., I will have extensive testing to determine if I have
tumors in other endocrine glands such as the pancreas, small intestines, etc.
Unfortunately, I am told that this has just begun...even though it started in
1997. It is hard to believe that it has been ten years already. My Daddy had
his second liver surgery on June 12th and it went well. Unfortunately, he
recently had a 3D CT follow-up and he is not able to have his third liver
surgery to remove the cancerous right liver lobe because the liver has not
regenerated enough. Daddy's surgeon advised he proceed with chemo asap. Daddy
will start chemo again next week. Please keep him in your prayers. This is very
difficult for him. It is very difficult for all of us. This has been my
summer... I received an inquiry about why someone's post wasn't posted
immediately...I am a co-manager of Pit Chat and the past few months have been
so hectic that I don't find much time to participate on the boards, although I
try to check them once or twice a week. I apologize for the delay in moderating
the posts. Minnie is very busy as well and she also has someone close to her
with cancer. She is dealing with a lot. She may not be able to post as much as
she'd like to. We are here, however, and if you ever have any questions for our
management team, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you. Take care. Meri
