----------------------------------------------------------- From: liltrubin Message 4 in Discussion Dear DDR: Those ranges are done with middle age men, of average size weight etc.. So we are not always going to fit in the "range" or we may fit in the range and it still be low or high for us as individuals. You are low in the normal range and it maybe low for you! I would highly suggest that you talk t your endo about doing GH blood work and also you have the option to have your IGF-1 level at another lab and seeing how that works for you. I would defiantly do the GH test. Good luck!!!! I take thyroid hormone replacement and my levels are in the normal range. My doctor has had me increase the thyroid hormone dose to see if it helps the fatigue but it doesn't. Over the years, he has tested the IGF-1 to see if I may have a growth hormone deficiency but each time he does the test my result has been between 73 and 86. The reference range for a man my age (48) for this particular lab is 66 to 296. Here's my dilemma. I have looked at reference ranges for at least 5 other reputable labs and they are comparable in their reference range of about 90 to 300. But I've been told by my doctor that I don't have a growth hormone deficiency because my IGF-1 result falls in the reference range of 66 to 296. Yet, my doctors feel they have tested everything and can't find a cause for the symptoms. I've even tried antidepressants to see if they help the symptoms but they didn't help. Then I read last week that IGF-1 is not a definitive test for growth hormone deficiency. For the past 8 years I've been told the IGF-1 is normal and that I do not have a growth hormone deficiency. It sounds a little stupid on my part because I trusted what the doctors told me. I am so confused and frustrated. Can anyone tell me why they say I don't have a growth hormone deficiency yet I have all the symptoms, and no other answers for the symptoms? Thank you, DDR View other groups in this category.
