I just had a conversation with my ENT who re-read a scan I just had done
because he said many Radiologists cannot tell the difference between fat
grafts and other issues. In my case it was noted as opaque which means that it
is a chronic sinus condition in the Spheniod sinuses which would require
further surgery to clean it out. When the ENT looked at it he was like no that
is just the fat graft. They have to go through your spheniod sinuses to get to
the pit gland and they have to pack that up. I would guess it is the fat graft.
They can title fat graft as packing because that is what it is...packing. I
hear that your very scared and upset would be an understatement but when the
medical community terms something it may mean something else in the general
population. In your case it might be packing means fat graft. I hope that helps
a tad!!!!

Let us know what the Doc says when you hear back!!!!

HUGS,
Tina

OK, here is an update on the MRI scan post transsphenoidal surgery.10/7/2007

Original size 1.5 cm X 0.8mm

<o:p></o:p>

After surgery the rad report states, 0.8mm tumor <o:p></o:p>

And Surgical Packing in the Sphenoid Sinus Cavity…. excuse me?

<o:p></o:p>

On the last note I contacted my ENT office and was advised she would contact
the other office where the doctor was to deliver the message. Message was. Why
is there packing in the Sphenoid Sinus Cavity? Well wouldn't you know that the
nurse called me back within 30 minutes and asked me what's going on. I told her
recent MRI shows packing in the sphenoid sinus cavity. She states how do I
know. I said the Radiologist states it is there. She asked if I had talked with
Neuro DOC I said I places a phone call into the office and haven't heard back
(still haven't). She said well you have an appointment Tuesday at 11:30 bring
MRI films and report and the Doc will talk to you about it. OK. #1 if it was
suppose to be there wouldn't she just tell me that? So today I contacted a
Friend at the hospital where the surgery was done and asked for a favor to get
the Operative Notes today vs. 7-10 business days, went on lunch to grab it and
NO WHERE is the two reports it states anything was left placed or what have you
to my sphenoid sinus cavity. It does state they accessed it to get to the
Pituitary gland. . . I read and re-read the reports for the last 3 hours and
nothing. I even googled words like 3-Vircyl Which is the suture he placed on
the cut from my abdomen. The fat he took from the stomach was placed into the
seller where the tumor was.…

I'm scared of what is in there. So I have a phone call into one of the
radiologists I used to work for to review the films.

<o:p></o:p>

Oh! When I got home from the doctor's office I tried doing internet research
about the packing left in the sinus cavity. I stumbled upon this Neuro doc from
the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType> of
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Florida</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>. He had a web page
from the college site about the Surgery. This particular one. And how he
doesn't use packing cause it isn't necessary. I sent him an email asking if the
packing would be typical surgical procedure and gave him the details of my
tumor size prior and post surgery told him the type of tumor (prolactinoma) and
left my phone number. You know it took 2 minutes for him to call me! 2 minutes.
He is a doctor for the hospital Shands and started talking with me about the
packing told me not to worry quite so much about it states every doctor closes
up differently and to keep my appointment with him. He then said that I should
concentrate on the size of the tumor now. He said that it should be that large
post surgery and suggested I follow-up with my Neuro. He then asked me if I was
sure it was a Prolactinoma. I said yes that's what they've been telling me for
4 years now. He asked how my levels were now, I said 17. He said that's great
that's normal. I said my levels were only 33 when I was diagnosed. He said
that's normal too. I don't think with those levels it is a Prolactinoma.
Typically levels start at 100's to 1,000's for Prolactin. What!!!? So. He said
after I talk with my Neuro and I am not satisfied with the answers to call him
and he will take me as a patient for a 2nd opinion. Great huh! FLORIDA'S HEALTH
CARE IS APPAULING

<o:p> </o:p>

So, I am left with three unanswered questions; What the heck is in my Sphenoid
sinus cavity, What kind of tumor do I really have and how come it is so big
still?

oh and the headaches are coming back.... yeah!<o:p></o:p>
