----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on Pituitary Chat
----------------------------------------------------------- From: Willard1H Message 14 in Discussion My memory problems were most severe a year ago, just as my 50mm macro prolactinoma was being diagnoses. Prolactin level was huge, 12,840. In a group of 50 people, I could be counted on to forget half of their names. The next time, it seemed I would forget the other half. I never had a problem with words -- they're too deeply imbedded, like driving skills and such. But when I would pour three individual cups of water into my coffeemaker, I would lose count. "Was that the second or third?" Finally I just began to use a 3-cup measure. My short-term memory was as long-lasting as fog. If I received verbal instructions at work, they disappeared within hours. Finally I began to insist on written directions, or I wrote it all down, myself. On the following day, any new info was gone from my mind. Mondays were a time to almost start everything over. On cabergoline instead of having surgery, my tumor did shrink to about a third its original size in that first six months. Prolactin levels dropped to 75. My memory became noticeably better, and I didn't feel like I was stumbling around in a brain fog. Now I can remember the names and details about all 50 people in the group. (Well, maybe about 47.....) Don't forget (HA!) to tell family, friends and co-workers about your memory shortcomings. Print them a web page about Pit Tumor memory problems. People tend to be more understanding if they can anticipate your probs, and can laugh with you. Oh, I wanted to remember to wish everyone improvements with that shaky, flakey memory. It can get better, I promise you.
