Package: cyrus21-common
Version: 2.1.16-6
Severity: normal

It seems that the user that invokes 'mbpath' needs write access to
/var/lib/cyrs/mailboxes.db, or "mbpath" will produce the error message
"can't read mailboxes file".

Shouldn't read access be sufficient?

Background:

I included the user "Debian-exim" in the group "mail", and try the
following condition in a Exim4 router:

     cyrus_lmtp:
       debug_print   = "R: cyrus_lmtp for $local_part@$domain"
       driver        = accept
       domains       = +local_domains
       local_parts   = ! root
       condition     = ${run {/usr/sbin/mbpath -q -s user.$local_part}{1}{0}}
       transport     = cyrus_lmtp

This succeeds only if the "mail" group can both read and write to
/var/lib/cyrus/mailboxes.db.

This bug has been reported against an ancient version of cyrus
(cyrus-2.1) that is no longer supported. It is assumed to be fixed (or
no longer relevant) in newer releases and therefore I'm closing this
report now. If the problem is still reproducible in the current version
(cyrus-2.4), feel free to provide more information, reopen and reassign
this bug report to a current package.

Andreas
