Not only that but I don't see other vendors doing the type of thing 
Solaris has to do with patching, in fact some other systems don't have 
the concept of patches at all just new packages.

I think is is also really important to keep in mind that the current 
package break down from some consolidations *will* have to be 
*significantly* changed (ON in particular) to make effective use of 
pkg(5) [it actually needs to change to make use of SVR4 better but there 
is no point in doing that now IMO ].
