I think this is a typo that we all missed in the review. You are likely to
have better results if you upgrade to the "build 91" version of SUNWipkg:
pkg install [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It will work far better if you have multiple authorities. In fact, I
believe it will resolve Chris' problem entirely (he should be able to
simply install the 0.91 version of SUNWipkg and retry the image-update).
As for "may", that's probably just Stephen being his usual understated
self. I forget that I'm just used to it and know how to translate.
Sorry for the confusion. See if the 0.91 ipkg works. If you're feeling
particularly paranoid, manually create a new BE, update SUNWipkg in there,
reboot to it, and then do the image-update. That'll allow you to roll back
to where you are now without any grief.
