Some of what I asked for is there... I'd really like to see:
# ptime pkg install -nv <singlepackage> (on an existing system)
# ptime pkg install -nv slim_install (from scratch)
# ptime pkg image-update -nv (when there are no updates)
# ptime pkg image-update -nv (when there are updates)
These four things encapsulate what the average user is most likely
to hit IMO.
