As for whether this should live in the distro-constructor or not... I
guess it depends on how heavyweight a process that ends up being for a
user. I think we (the people who distribute OpenSolaris) should make
this be essentially a 2 step process "make clone info" "replicate
clone". Where that functionality lives I feel less strongly about,
though having PackageManager tie into the distro constructor (or
wherever it ends up) to offer that as a menu option would be nice.
From what I understand, it is intended that it be very easy to do this
using the distribution constructor (eventually). I also tend to think
it's the best place for it if your intention is to setup one or more
systems identically to an existing configuration.
Yes, it is on the roadmap. If you understand how the live CD is built,
it's a fairly simple evolution of that process.
I think it's advanced functionality that doesn't belong in the package
manager cli or gui as its focus is very different from an average user.
It seems problematic for the gui as well given that the gui doesn't
provide a unified interface for packages on the system and forces you to
filter based on repository.
Nevertheless, as I said, an RFE can be opened.
I think it's worth having the discussion, anyway.
