The Update Center team has a need for a cross-platform Actuator
implementation that supports User Images.
Tom and I have put together a proposal that we'd like to get
feedback on:
http://wiki.updatecenter.java.net/Wiki.jsp?page=UC22UserImageActuators
Keep in mind this implementation would only be used on user images and
would not be in play for OpenSolaris system images.
If there isn't an RFE on this already I'll go ahead and create one.
Initial thoughts:
- I'd like to see the actuator names prefixed with "user." to make
this more clear.
- From 2.0, "UserImageActuator will not support any form of user
interaction" must be promoted to a requirement.
I agree and will make both of these changes.
- How do you see this mechanism working for relocatable packages?
(Relocatable packages can be installed in any of the image types.)
My thinking was the actuator implementation would be triggered by the
image type. The actuators ignore attributes they don't understand, so
you could have a file action with both types of actuator attributes
and the ones used would be triggered by the image type.
I'm open to feedback on this.
Joe
Thanks
Stephen
