are we considering a more formal way to solve this sort of problem? a
high percentage of our customers typically have a large secure air gap
between their network and the rest of the world .. installing in these
environments is going to require a private, local, cacheable repository
- preferably something that is also easily transportable .. AI and a
pass through proxy isn't going to cut it as this will typically
introduce a site policy violation
The pkg(5) team is definitely aware of a need for more advanced
mirroring functionality. However, we want to properly design and
implement it in such a way that meets the needs of the target audience.
As you might imagine, that's taking some time. Not only because of
resources, but because the system is still undergoing rapid change. For
example, the transport system is being completely redesigned and
re-implemented right now.
CDNs, local mirrors, corporate networks, manufacturing, etc. are
definitely among the list of scenarios that will be accounted for.
