Yes, please. Mainly because package install operations that pull in or upgrade dependencies are difficult to roll back. A user pulling in a new package which he knows could potentially disturb his existing setup would find this useful. > How about one to cause the operation > to fail if a new BE is required? Don't care for this much, unless this would be the interface to figure out if an install would need a reboot, as Nico suggested. Though for that case, I prefer a command which would just tell me if a reboot would be required and make no changes to the image at all. Maybe "pkg install -n"?
