Actually, I'm quite certain that we're collectively bright enough to
optimize a solution to that problem, should it be necessary. Metadata
can be used in a lot of ways...
The installer should only be using the api to determine the size of an
install, abuse of metadata is likely to result in a broken installer or
bad results at some point :(
