Hi,

I'm running OpenSolaris 2008.11 snv_101b_rc2 X86, and trying to
install SUNWgvim. I get this IPS error:

Install/Update failure in plan creation
pkg: the following package(s) violated constraints:
       Package pkg:/[email protected],5.11-0.111 conflicts with
constraint
in installed pkg:/entire:
               Pkg SUNWfreetype2: Optional min_version: 2.3.7,5.11-0.101
max
version: 2.3.7,5.11-0.101 defined by: pkg:/entire

What does this mean? It's been painless up till now.
Yes, unfortunately, the dependency solver currently in place isn't smart
enough to 'backtrack' when a newer version of a package than you can use is
available.

Unfortunately, even if were smart enough to do that, SUNWgvim is not
available for 2008.05, only 2008.11 or newer, so you'll have to upgrade if
you want to install SUNWgvim.

Erm, I am using 2008.11. Can you explain what the error message
actually means? I have something in my installation that is newer
than what's available on the repo? Can I force this in? If yes, what
are the future implications?

Yes, sorry, I got my build versions mixed up. You have 2008.11, but that package is only available for 2009.06, so you can't install it.

Cheers,
