Nope. No crazy changes. No sane ones either. :-) All I've done lately is
pull from gate and apply the occasional a11y and gui patches.

As I suggested in my initial message in this thread, I really do think
this was simply a matter of bad timing pulling from gate. There have
been a couple of times where the revision I pulled had a bug which
resulted in a traceback which I came across while using packagemanager.
Perhaps something got corrupted as a result??

Anyhoo.... As I've since mentioned, disabling and re-enabling Contrib
has magically made the update issue go away. It's also apparently made
the issue you pointed out today go away:

$ pkg list -avf virtualbox
FMRI                                                             STATE      UFIX
pkg://extra/[email protected],5.11-0.101:20090714T183200Z         installed  ----

As far as I'm concerned, it's all good now. If, however, you think this
is a bug which might present itself in a release and want to get to the
bottom of it.... I have just created a BE from a zfs snapshot taken
Saturday. In that snapshot:

> What's the output of "ls /var/pkg/catalog" and "grep virtualbox
> /var/pkg/catalog/catalog_cache"?

$ ls /var/pkg/catalog
catalog_cache contrib extra multimedia opensolaris.org pending

$ grep virtualbox /var/pkg/catalog/catalog_cache
[email protected],5.11-0.101:20081112T225142Z|4!
virtualbox/[email protected],5.11-0.101:20081112T225223Z|4!

(In my now-good BE, the latter results in nothing being found.)

HTH.
