Folks,
After our discussion about manifest temporary files, and multiple
processes operating on the same image, I've put together a small change
set that gets the client to handle the temporary files for manifests
correctly. The change is small, ~40 lines.

General comments:
* Should the "w" be "wb" where it is used?
* It seems that __file_path could be expressed in terms of __file_dir
plus an os.path.join now.
Otherwise, this seems right to me.
