I can't speak to that thread, but it mostly works. It's had some problems recently, particularly with the EXDEV tracebacks, but that's been fixed. There may be other problems lurking, but I know I'll run into 'em as soon as they occur. So while you may have to occasionally do a dance to make pkg(5) work until such a config is officially supported, it a) hasn't been very often and b) hasn't been very hard.
