I don't think anyone is calling for just "gimp" here -- just "gimp" at the tail of a heirarchy like the one you suggest. But those tails should generally be named after the project, or by whatever name it's commonly called. There are other ways to find what you're looking for if you don't know the name, including categories and the package name heirarchy, not to mention search.
