That's what I'd understood, but writing the object I'd just loaded in takes a second and a half on my x86 box, while an image create takes about a minute, most of which is spent with "Caching catalog ..." as the status. Perhaps encoding the catalog as a JSON object is the slowdown, or perhaps I'm timing the wrong thing, but somewhere the two don't compare properly, which is confusing.
