Unless you somehow make booting the system (or some other basic
operation) dependent on zsh, it's never going to be in the "minimum
required packages".
Bug dminer and comay, who don't seem to think this is important enough.
At least for the default CD install, the bugid's:
10996 zsh in the default install
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=10996
Making it a default for other installs (zones, AI) would be another
issue.
Whether it belongs in any default installation is certainly open for
argument; it would have a lot better chance of being on the live CD if
it weren't so damn big. That (and the lack of dependents) is what got
it kicked off to start with.
The shell itself is only 531k for /usr/bin/zsh and all of the libraries
it depends on are already core and in /lib/.
The extra stuff in /usr/share/zsh is another 2.9Mb so yes that bit is
quite big for the LiveCD. However I think it would be reasonable to
split the SUNWzsh package in two so that /usr/bin/zsh can be on the
LiveCD even if the /usr/share/zsh stuff isn't.
That would at least allow people who have /usr/bin/zsh as their shell
set in the nameservice to login instead of having to resort to putting
something else as their login shell and doing tricks in that shell's
startup scripts to reexec into a zsh if it is found.
