It will also help if you have a digital camera and take a snapshot of
what happen when you run kmdb with the -k option. Then someone can
figure out what could be wrong.

I edited the menu.lst file to remove ",console=graphics" plus all lines
about graphics and colors. Then when I try to boot into the new BE, I see
three lines about version, copyright, and license terms, pause about ten
seconds, then a large number of lines zooming by that look as though they
start with addresses and maybe module names but it goes by too quickly,
then "syncing", "skipping", "rebooting". and back to the GRUB menu.
Add "-k" to the kernel line in the grub menu, which should drop you to a
prompt when the kernel panics instead of rebooting. That should give you
the ability to see at least a little bit of what had scrolled by.
