Well, IIRC PKG_IMAGE, but isn't that the same? AFAIK that's the only
way to get pkg to work on a non-live image. The obvious workaround is to
actually boot the non-live image, and it turned out that the bootblk got
zapped somehow during the (failed) image_update. Actually booting to
finish the image-update isn't a big deal though (after running installboot
yet again), so this is really of academic interest.
That makes more sense then.
In short then, you only saw the message because you tried to use
--be-name with something that wasn't the live BE.
