>From the Sun/Oracle point of view, pkgbuild was developed by the JDS
team when they needed to make the JDS packages available for both the
Solaris and Linux versions of JDS, and continues to this day as the
official build system of the JDS/Desktop consolidation.

It was also picked up for other projects such as SFE (a definite
spare time project) and SourceJuicer (which lives on in a way as
the new JDS build server system internally), but building JDS is
its core mission.
