Hi Chris, Thank you very much for the patch. I think it could be simplified by writing the properties in memory, replacing the line containing the date if the BUILD_DATE variable is detected, and then saving the file. This would avoid duplicating the code serializing the properties.
Is the BUILD_DATE variable settled for the whole Debian project yet? Maybe a name that looks more Debian specific would be preferable. Similarly to DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS we could probably use DEB_BUILD_DATE.
