So, k3b without hal is rather useless. Nevertheless, k3b does not depend
on hal (and doesn't recommend or suggest hal).
I think the problem is a bit more complex, because i have hal running
but still k3b does not find the device it should.
Gentoo users report compiling k3b against policykit instead of hal as a
pkg-kde-extras mailing list
