Pretty strange. I'm sure it's a local thing, nothing that's wrong in
general.
Various things you could try:
1. Move ~/.ardour* to some backup location or rm -rf it
2. Try jackd -d dummy to start jackd, just to see if it works
3. Try the jackd1 package
I guess 1.) could be enough.
