Just wondering if ifplugd somehow interferes here. Have you tried disabling ifplugd. Another idea: maybe it's related to name resolution. How is that configured? Does it help if you use IP adresses in /etc/fstab? -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
