Hello,
I've read in a magazine about linux a few tips to spare power on
laptop while on battery. One of them is to avoid starting unneccessary
services and reducing disk accesses. This implies to NOT mount the swap,
which is OK if you're not using things like X-Window and have a small
memory footprint. Would it be possible to add a variable like
"DELAYED_SWAP" to /etc/default/rc.S such that, if set to yes:
-/etc/rcS.d/mountall.sh don't mount the swap
-this is done later in a file like, f.i., S01swapon.sh, found in
/etc/rc[2..5].d, which can be optionnaly moved to one of the
"profiles" directories of laptop-net ? This way, swap would only be
activated in a situation where the laptop is running on sector, and
not in a minimal memory situation.

This bug is being closed as part of a cleanup of the old bug
reports in the sysvinit package, in an attempt to make it easier
to address the bug reports which actually are fixable. Some
reasons:
- Not a bug and/or it's a patch which will not be applied
- It will not be fixed, ever for various reasons
- Problem is not fixable in sysvinit or not our responsibility
- A better solution has become available in the interim
- No activity or submitter response in over a decade or more
