Thanks - however to the bottom of the ubuntu bug (in particular https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/974584/comments/20 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/974584/comments/21 ) vorlon has proposed an improved variation.
