I think it may be related to the following dependency chain: libexo-0.3-0 Depends: libnotify1 libnotify1 Recommends: notification-daemon notification-daemon Depends: gconf2 So I guess adding a Recommends: notification-daemon-xfce on libexo-0 would fix the problem, but I don't really like the solution.
