You might want to try and turn the gcc compiler optimization off by exporting 
   CFLAGS=-O0 and CXXFLAGS=-O0.  Then rerun your configure and make clean and 
the make / make install.

I know that has fixed many issues with the fc5 installs.  I haven't heard if 
it is a gcc bug or just what.
