lib3ds is not needed for gazebo to operate. Neither is Player although, Player 
provides a nice way for programs to interact with either a Gazebo simulated 
robot or a physical robot. 

As mentioned below if you are having problems I would concentrate on getting 
Gazebo running without either of them and then if you want the functionality 
they provide then go back and try to get the added functionality to compile 
_once everything else is working_.

Warnings are not something you need to worry about (unless you are the 
developer of Gazebo) if the compile completes.

Did Gazebo run? If not what were the run-time errors?
