you can enforce runtime probe dependency:

$ grep -r Requires.*cpuinfo ~/all-specs
/home/users/glen/all-specs/adobe-flash.spec:Requires: cpuinfo(sse2)
/home/users/glen/all-specs/google-earth.spec:Requires: cpuinfo(sse2)
/home/users/glen/all-specs/kernel.spec:Requires: cpuinfo(pae)
/home/users/glen/all-specs/ClanLib.spec:%{?with_sse2:Requires:
cpuinfo(sse2)}

Good to know.

Even better would be to also know what are the CPU extensions supposed to be available on our 'i686'.

sorry if this is totally out of context.

No, it is not.

It seems Ardour is supposed to detect and enable SSE on runtime, but I am not sure it works and I have no way to test it. MMX suuport seems to be hardcoded.
