This seems like a common theme on the plex86 list. Lots of people read
about what plex86 will do, and want to get their various OSes running
under fast emulation. IMHO, it would save plex86 list traffic and user
frustration to provide some guidelines to new users about when to try
plex86 first and when to try bochs first. Of course, this guideline will
change as development progresses. Eventually, you might only recommend
bochs to those who want Pentium emulation on a non-Pentium machine, or
user mode only, etc.
One of bochs' goals is to make the device models compatible with lots of
OSes. Since the device models are used by plex86 (though I'm sure you've
hacked them too), improvements in the bochs models benefits plex86
directly. For example, let me know if you need an apic model.
I'm certainly not looking to lure away eager plex86 users; but if what
they are trying to do is clearly premature in plex86-land, you may want to
send them along the bochs route. (http://bochs.sourceforge.net)
