Ok I have it compiled and working.  I upgraded my kernel to 2.4 (great
stuff btw) which solved my earlier problems.

I got it to boot the freedos images.

What I would like is a workable windows to run Flash 5.  (this is my
only need for windows)

So it looks like I need to make a disk image of a windows boot disk, and
set aside a chunk of drive space for the install.

How do you make dd make a blank disk image?

I tried
dd if=/dev/zero of=windisk483 bs=483M

it ran out of memory in a flash.
