Just to eliminate my thought that the vlc 0.8.5 crash issue may be due to the
differences between the wxGTK 2.6.1 version I had installed, and the 2.6.2
version available for Cooker, I grabbed source rpms for the 2.6.2 version and
rebuilt these on one of the 2006 devel machines. There was no difference in
the way the crash errors were reported when using gdb.

Following the test I rolled back to the mdk 2.6.1 versions of the packages.

I don't know if that helps at all?

I see there is no source rpm available for vlc, but I don't know if rebuilding
that locally may shed more light on why I am having the crashes? It might be
interesting to see if there are any error messages locally when rebuilding
the rpm. If this would be worthwhile, let me know, though it is possible I
may be looking in the wrong area?

And, any other ideas to look at or try that would be helpful will be
appreciated.
