It seems to me that, PLF uses Mandriva Community (rather than Official)
- and therefore by design, should have backports. My suggestion is to
have several repositories:

   1)Mandriva Official [Main + Contrib]
     PLF_Stable [needs to be created]
     Updates [security bugs only]
     PLF_Updates [ " ]

   2)Mandriva Community [Main + Contrib]
     PLF [as it currently exists]

These don't get an "updates" medium, since all security updates are
applied to the main tree. This is what should be used for Desktop
computers.

Important considerations:

1)Multimedia is a very fast moving target. Later versions of eg
mplayer and mythtv have significant impovements, which are desired.
furthermore, many of the multimedia packages are the most buggy.

2)This still leaves everyone who wants a reasonable stable system
(i.e. not cooker) without any form of updates.
Why should we wait a year for the latest firefox, openoffice etc?

      a)We can't play with it.

b)Any bugs we find will be obsolete, and the projects are
deprived of our eyeballs for finding bugs.

Best wishes,

Richard
