I've been making my own RPMs like that for years using shareware games (Commander Keen, Jill of the Jungle, Wolf3D, stuff like that) but I think putting the full versions in PLF is asking for trouble. But legal issues aside, if we started making RPMs of even freeware Dosbox images, they would quickly overwhelm PLF. It may be that a repository for that stuff should exist, but I'd argue it isn't PLF. On the other hand, while I understand Adam's fears, win32-codecs is essential for anyone who wants to watch popular media in a legal fashion. Anyone who argues otherwise is simply not a mainstream desktop user. I think taking it out would not only cripple PLF, but Mandriva in general. At very least, I'd build an RPM like the old msttfonts one that retrieves the codecs from mplayerhq.hu rather than removing the package entirely. I think this is what Automatix does for Ubuntu, so looking at their scripts may be instructive. Still, I would expect any legal threats to originate from someone like Linspire, who's paid money to license a lot of those codecs, rather than the actual codec copyright owners.
