I'm not thinking about this very deeply, but why not improve tabular
view with better HTML/CSS markup and contribute improvements back to
core as a PLIP? That's one less product to maintain and everybody
benefits from the improvements. These templates are, AFAIK, not
really actively maintained, so as long as your changes are generic
in nature, don't break anything major and sensibly architected, I
can't imagine much objection. Could be a nice little 4.3 PLIP.
yes we can do that but I'd like to put forward a plip that improves
collections even more. I'd like to merge plone search and collections
as well as make the listings more configurable. I think I can still do
that in a backward compatible way, although backwards compatible
doesn't make much sense in this context since p.a.collections isn't
backwards compatible.
btw the tabular view doesn't actually work at all in the current 4.2
p.a.collection code since you can't select the fields to view. At
least the last time I looked.

Hi,
Before I go and create this plugin I just want to 100% sure it
doesn't exist.
I want to be able to create a collection.
Specify the metadata fields to show, and then have them show using
nice css class names.
Then I can use diazo to reformat the look if I want.
- Tabular view doesn't work as there are no labels next to each
field and no css classes.
- EasyTemplates would work but means content editors are faced with
code, rather than configuration.
- Flexitopic doesn't work for the same reason tabular view doesn't
work.
- eea.facetednavigation might work but it's a bit overkill.
