Thanks for the suggestion. I tried updating the catalog in both the old working 3.3.6 site and in the new 4.1.2. It did not help in either case.
I did look in: /collab/uid_catalog/Indexes/Type and there are only 2 entries there with portal_factory in the path, they are: portal_factory/Folder/admin seminars/portal_factory/Folder/teatalks So these seem to correspond well to the error message. Unfortunately so far I can't think if any way to delete them (or find them since /admin and /seminars/teatalks both exist as real folders). Since there are only two items, I wonder if there is a way to identify and delete them in the ZMI interface? I guess I'm stuck waiting until (http://dev.plone.org/ticket/12185) is resolved.
