Thanks for that test, Andrew.

Does anybody have access to Debian stable (etch)?  It would be interesting
to see whether that version of gfortran (4.1.1) supports the intrinsic
transfer function as well so that it can build our f95 interface.

As far as PLplot is concerned, I think all this can be handled by inserting
a note in our release notes about the minimum version of gfortran now
required to build the f95 interface. I have committed such a change to
README.release.  If it turns out that 4.1.1 works as well, I will change
README.release accordingly.
