Hi Arjen:

Thanks for that quick response.  As you could tell it is the same
undefined reference result for a symbol that should be defined within
the library itself!  That is, this result is exactly as before
(without the jumbling). I was afraid dropping the -j4 would not solve
the issue, but thanks for at least trying that experiment even though
it did not solve the undefined reference problem.

So analysis of what is causing that undefined reference should be your
next step, and my experience is the "nm" command is ideal for that
task. So I hope you can use that to figure this all out on Friday
following what I did here, but by all means if there is another tool
you like to use to analyze these undefined reference issues, use that
as well to confirm the nm results (just in case nm is not reliable on
Cygwin).

I am looking forward to hearing back from you on Friday with lots of
results from your investigation of this issue.
