Yes, I could do that (I am using C++). But does this interacts with the OS then?
If so, I do not like it. Imagine I have 2 independant programs that
run on the same system and I want each of them to point to a different
directory. There will be a conflict.

This is why I would prefer to set the directory with a function so
that it write to an internal variable of the library.

I can probably implement that and propose a patch if you tell me where
it is best to start.
