But that code only handles *inlined* images. An inlined image is not
a problem, since you only draw the image and then "forget" it.
However, to handle the large pannable version you would need
something else and that is what I'm talking about. You can see my

Keep in mind that it was written in June 2000 and the idea would
most likely need some changes...

The images don't take up any extra memory at all, since we don't have
to "remember" anything for inlined images. I'm not sure you would even
have to use a list to implement this...
