Hello Plucker team, Just have subscribed to the list, so I'd like to introduce myself and suggest (and support?) some new features for Plucker.
I'm a developer of RoadLingua (www.absoluteword.com) - dictionary
family for Palm OS and PocketPC devices.
The proposal I have is the following: I have checked the
readers/viewers we have on Palm OS market and failed to find a text
viewer which fits all my expectations in working with resident mode of
RoadLingua. The resident (popup mode) is the mode when you mark any
word in any Palm application, make a magic stroke or call command menu
and RoadLingua screen with translation of marked word pops up. The
problem is that all viewers do not allow marking the words in normal
mode. So either I have to write a new viewer or cooperate with any
viewer's developer to adopt both the viewer and RoadLingua to each
other. I want the viewer to have a mode allowing to scroll the text by
keys and jog while the tap on any word in a text will call RoadLingua
(I will provide some API) to translate the word. Will you have an
interest to adopt your Plucker and bundle it with RoadLingua English
and/or other dictionaries? We both could get profits here: you'll get
dictionaries with your reader while I'll get a reader tuned for my
application. If you want to try RoadLingua, please download it from
our site and let me know UserID it reports you, I will send you your
registration keys then. As Plucker is under GPL while RL is shareware
we could think about providing free registration for RL viewer (not
lexicons though) to everybody who will provide a reference code from
you.
Actually all you have to do to call RL as popup is to launch RL
through subcall having cmd = sysAppLaunchCmdCustomBase, and text
pointer set in (char*)cmdPBP;
UInt32 PilotMain(UInt16 cmd, MemPtr cmdPBP, UInt16 launchFlags) <=>
PilotMain(sysAppLaunchCmdCustomBase,stringToTranslate,sysAppLaunchFlagSubCall);
If you need some sample code let me know and let me know and I will
send it to you later.
Just want you to know, that I came to this idea trying to find a good
Palm reader for my Sony NX73 to read the last Harry Potter in English.
My mother's language is Russian, so I have to look in a dictionary for
some words. iSilo, Plucker, TiBR PRO are all good , others lack in
HiRes+, or jog dial, or something else. But it was really a pain to
popup translation since Plucker uses taps either for scrolling or
hyperlink jumps. I had to mark and copy a word into in clipboard and
then paste it in RL. We have contacted with TiBR team to make
dictionary popup a standard feature of the reader and we expect new
release of TiBR to come really soon. iSilo is ignoring us. What about
you?

Konstantin
