Ok, I worked it out, sparked by your suggestion to look at that.  It IS the 
hi_res viewer that needed installing, which seemed likely when the two had 
different zlibs. 
 
So all is good now, thanks for the answer, David.  Definitely helped.  I guess 
I had forgotten given it was so long ago I installed it originally.  I won't 
now though. :) 
 
So for screen rotation, Palm m500 needs the 1.8 hi res viewer.
