Thanks everyone for your ideas. This is quite an old machine - certainly
its running low on disc space. I will try removing most of the other
processes (things like the mouse wheel, Direct CD, ...) and try again this
evening.
It looks like the machine is so short on RAM / Disk space that neither
Python nor Plucker can start. I didn't think this would be the problem as
it copes with MS Word, IE, Publisher, Easy CD Creator - which are all memory
hungry.
I was actually using Python 2.1 (not Perl, that was a typo). What version
do you recommend?

This means "TOO_MANY_SEM_REQUESTS".
The Program create a Semaphore at startup. This is a little global
maker that is set and can be accessed by any other program and this
are deleted by quit the program. I set this, so the Installer can
detect a running Plucker session and can tell you "Please Quit Plucker
before installing".
I do not know why this fail, i guess you are low of resources. Have
you tried to reboot the PC?

No it's no related to Python, but you can use Python 2.1 if you wan't.
