I think plucker is great!
For reading news:
I create batch files which run python-build with command line options
(on Win98). I use the task scheduler to run the batch file each morning
to get the news I want to read. The batch files copies the pdb files to
the palm install directory and regedit is run with a registry key to
tell the hotsync program that pdb files are present for uploading.
So in the morning I drop the Palm into the cradle and news and weather
is updated with one button push.
The hard part is finding news sources and getting the correct options
for maxdepth, staybelow or stayonhost.
The odd thing is that I found first using Plucker difficult and I had to
figure out how to use plucker-build with command line options - I am not
sure what I missed.
