Thanks.  That's what I wanted - someone to corroborate my findings.  I guess I can try installing the pure unix version of the distiller, or perhaps SiteScooper.  Anyone using SiteScooper?

I can't help you here since I'm not responsible for the Java distiller. I
was commenting on Adam mentioning JPluck in this discussion. JPluck has
nothing to do with this.

Anyway, I tried out the Java distiller on my machine (WinXP) with a test
document containing a PNG image and I get the same error as you. ("Error
opening image file with JIU") Seems to me that the distiller doesn't handle
PNG images.
